Why Is It So Hard To Find Good Employees?

Finding good employees has always been a daunting task. Finding good employees is even more challenging and difficult in a post-pandemic world.

For over a year and still now, many people have adjusted to the stay-at-home and work-from-home life and are now seeking every opportunity they can to keep that lifestyle.

However, it isn’t just about the want and desire to stay home that is keeping a business from finding good employees; it’s about the negative culture that a business creates. This type of environment is created unintentionally – through narcissistic leadership, unorganized business practices, and lack of teamwork.

So as a future or current franchisee, how do you find suitable employees and keep them long-term?

We could talk for hours about what businesses do to push employees away. Still, instead, we will educate and hopefully inspire a business to flip the switch and change the environment so that it is no longer hard to find good employees!

Building Trust

Business ownership is not a linear journey but one that has many paths. As you succeed in one area, you veer off onto another road of obstacles and victories. In the end, you have not just a path but what looks like a tree, fully bloomed and rooted in strong foundations.

One of those foundations is trust. Your employees MUST trust that you are always doing what you can for them and what is in their best interest. They are the backbone of your business, and when you build trust, you can guarantee they will work hard for you.

Another reason why trust is important is because if your team trusts you, they will tell their friends and others that you value and work hard for them to have all the tools they need to be successful.

Adaptability

The only thing permanent in life is change. Just because your methods and business practices have worked before doesn’t mean they will work now. Methods and practices that have been used for decades are surely outdated and need to be revamped to adapt to the new generations and advanced technology.

Leave the term “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it” behind and ask yourself, “How can I make this better and more efficient?”

Communicate with and ask your team – the ones who are on the front line of the job every day – if they have any ideas. Allow them to collaborate with you and encourage them to speak up if a process can be done better. Show them you value their opinions and ideas!

Become PART Of The Team

Don’t just run the team behind the scenes or sit in an office while your management handles the front-line staff. Take a few hours each week if you can, and jump in with them to see how things are going.

Don’t forget, everyone starts somewhere, and usually, it’s at the bottom. Working with your team builds community and a positive environment that shows you aren’t “too good” to step in.

This also shows the team you are a team player, and they can ask you for help when they need it.

You will get to know your team and understand their needs better when you work alongside them! You may even find your next franchisee or future manager amongst them!

It’s Not Hard To Find Good Employees When You Build A Community Based On Trust And Teamwork

As we said above, your employees are the backbone of your business. They are also stakeholders and the best mouthpiece you have when it comes to promoting your business!

Happy employees will tell their friends, family, and customers how much they enjoy working there and, in turn, encourage them to come work alongside them!
