TIP 1. Experience is Not as Important as Attitude

In business and in life, attitude is everything. Studies have shown that stress can cause you a whole lot of problems at work – but only if you let it. Your attitude directly affects your franchise and team members. Whether you feel disorganized or frustrated, calm or in control, you have a ripple affect on the people you daily influence at work. . Having a positive attitude is not only beneficial to your health and job stability, it is also essential to lead a happy and successful life outside of work. Most of us don’t end up with our dream career, but we must not focus on the negative. You are the only person in control of your life, career, decisions and overall attitude, so make sure that wherever you go, you go with kindness. Good things will happen as long as you are motivated and have a positive attitude towards your career, life, goals and most importantly the people who work for you.

TIP 2. Incorporate Peer Interviews

Peer interviews are a great tool to use during the hiring process because it gives employees an opportunity to see candidates in a less guarded, more comfortable setting as oppose to a one-on-one interview with a Manager. By being surrounded by potential teammates, Franchisees can find out more information that may otherwise be hidden in a classic interview. For example, in an interview with a potential peer, a candidate may feel more inclined to relate to them and not feel bombarded by the pressure of sitting across from a potential boss. Team members that help choose new hires naturally feel more invested in the new hire and may be more willing to lend a hand towards the overall training and outcome of that potential new employee. An important thing to remember before choosing which employees will conduct the interview, is to sit down with your franchise’s current highest performers and determine what makes them good at their jobs and what qualities they believe are fundamental to their success so they can ferret out similar things with potential new hires.

TIP 3. Look for Candidates Who Share a Common Vision

As a Franchisee, you are a leader and the word “leader” implies direction. You are the person in charge of leading your team in the right direction – but where are you leading them to? If you don’t have a vision, you can’t expect new hires to share in your vision. Ask potential candidates to talk about the vision they have as a potential employee in your business and see how their vision may fit with yours. If their vision aligns with yours, it is likely that they will work with you to achieve great results.

Be sure to incorporate these 3 essentials tips when hiring employees. Remember that experience is never as important as attitude, incorporating peer interviews can be beneficial to your entire franchise’s company culture and finding potential team members with a shared vision is an absolute must!
